RSC Update: It’s All About Jobs
From the Chairman
What do reckless deficit spending, mounting debt, burdensome regulations, and rising energy prices have in common? Republicans are working to reduce each of these obstacles because they all put private sector job creators on the defensive. Lower spending, less debt hanging over our future, more freedom to innovate, and lower energy prices will translate into more and better job opportunities for American families. In the end, it’s all about jobs – jobs today and jobs for our children tomorrow.
Today, the House will vote on a 3-week funding bill with $6 billion in cuts because Senate Democrats still refuse to produce a credible plan that cuts spending and complete this year’s budget. I favor the cuts in this bill, but I will not be able to support it. With record deficits and a mammoth debt hanging over our economy and our future, we need to start tackling next year’s budget, the debt-ceiling, and other challenges standing in the way of job creation.
Bite-sized cuts that do not defund Planned Parenthood or ObamaCare will not do any longer. It is time Senate Democrats stopped dithering so we can finish this year’s budget and focus on cutting spending next year and encouraging long-term job creation.

· Rep. Phil Roe (TN-01) introduced the Secret Ballot Protection Act, which would ensure every worker’s right to a secret ballot in union organizing elections.
· Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-03) introduced the Savings Start With Us Act, which would reduce the salaries of the President, Vice President, and Members of Congress by 10%.
House Floor Activity – The following key legislation came through the House of Representatives recently.
· The House passed H.R. 830 and H.R 836, which would save taxpayers $8.8 billion by ending two costly and ineffective foreclosure mitigation programs.
· To make up for the Obama administration’s refusal to defend the federal law defining marriage as between one man and one woman, the House of Representatives on Wednesday directed the House General Counsel to initiate a legal defense of the Defense of Marriage Act.
Outlook – A quick look at what’s on the horizon.
· The House will vote today on a 3-week CR that would cut spending by $6 billion.
· The House will vote this week to end two more costly and ineffective foreclosure mitigation programs. H.R. 839 would save $30 billion by terminating the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP). H.R. 861 would end the Neighborhood Stabilization Program and prevent $1 billion from being spent.
· The House is also scheduled to vote on a bill this week to end taxpayer subsidies to NPR.
