Faisal Shahzad, a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Pakistan, was arrested late on Monday at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York as he tried to take a flight to Dubai, local and federal officials said.   Hat tip Carole!

Will Mayor Doomberg sleep better at night knowing Times Square bomber is not a deranged redneck?

The culprit behind a smoking idiot bomb placed in Times Square is a Pakistan-born U.S. citizen, reports the AP, and not, as NY Mayor Michael Doomberg suggested to Katie Couric, “a mentally deranged person or somebody with a political agenda that doesn’t like the health care bill or something.” Faisal Shahzad was “taken into custody late Monday by FBI agents and New York Police Department detectives at Kennedy Airport while trying to board a flight to Dubai, according to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and other officials. He was identified by customs agents and stopped before boarding, Holder said early Tuesday in Washington.” Shahzad will appear in court today, where he will likely be charged with trafficking fireworks across state lines and trying to destroy the American way of life.

Elections in three states today

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Tea party activists haven’t liked former Republican Sen. Dan Coats of Indiana from the time he launched a comeback campaign three months ago. Now he’ll find out what that means for his bid to retake his old Senate seat.

Coats has support from the state and Washington GOP establishment that recruited him, making Indiana’s primary election one of three Tuesday that will test whether party backing is enough to secure a nomination and, in some cases, signal the strength of the tea party coalition.

Open Senate seats in Indiana and Ohio and the Democratic race for a challenger to North Carolina Sen. Richard Burr top ballots as the states kick off a wave of primaries during the next several months.

LOL of the Day: Darwin Dynasty Cursed By Inbreeding

Charles Darwin’s family suffered from the deleterious effects of inbreeding, suggests a new study that serves as ironic punctuation to the evolutionary theorist’s life work.

Pioneer of the theory that genetic traits affect survival of both individual organisms and species, Darwin wondered in his own lifetime if his marriage to first cousin Emma Wedgwood was having “the evil effects of close interbreeding” that he had observed in plants and animals.

Consumer Group Lays Out Financial Reform Strategy

The consumer-backed Americans for Financial Reform laid out its amendment strategy Tuesday, saying it intends to strengthen provisions in the Senate financial regulatory reform bill while defending against Wall Street’s attempts to weaken the bill.

Analysis: Dodd Bill Would Not Prevent Bailouts
A Senate measure advertised as protecting taxpayers from another Wall Street bailout would still leave them fronting the money if the government moves to liquidate a big failing company like insurance giant AIG. Taxpayers could end up putting up billions of dollars to cover the costs of dealing with such a firm.” Kuhnhenn says that “an amendment the Senate is expected to pass Tuesday states that ‘taxpayers shall bear no losses from the exercise of any authority under this title,'” but, according to Kuhnhenn, “the measure doesn’t prevent that kind of obligation, though it does require that taxpayers would be paid back.” Take Action

Republicans Relent, Allow Debate On Financial Overhaul To Begin »
After voting for three consecutive days to block financial reform legislation from reaching the floor, Senate Republicans finally relented last week and agreed to allow floor deliberations to begin.

It’s No Accident — Why Goldman’s Suddenly Getting Grilled
Presidents are always in need of enemies. Obama has the Tea Party movement, and Wall Street – and he is using Wall Street, namely Goldman, as a paper tiger to help build support for financial reform.
While they still have total control of Washington, the Obama administration and congressional Democrats have been working feverishly to pass a financial regulatory reform bill that would give the federal government expanded powers over Wall Street. At the same time, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has launched an investigation into Goldman Sachs and one of its vice presidents for defrauding investors by misstating and omitting key facts about a financial product tied to subprime mortgages just as the U.S. housing market was beginning to falter. Most recently, in an outrageous abuse of power, Senator Carl Levin (D-Mich.) released internal e-mails from Goldman employees, the same week Goldman execs are slated to testify on Capitol Hill, and on the same week that Democrats make their final push to pass the financial reform bill.
If you think there are coincidences in Washington when it comes to timing, think again.

Apple Faces Antitrust Investigation
A lost iPhone may be the least of Apple’s problems: Rumors are swirling that antitrust authorities may investigate the company after it issued a new licensing agreement for iPhone application developers that prevents them from using non-Apple software to create the apps. New advertising restrictions may also give the company’s iAd service an unfair leg up over other companies, and both new restrictions will be the subject of talks in the Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department, which will determine whether or not an inquiry is needed. The controversy is reminiscent of monopoly complaints against Microsoft in the 1990s and one official said, “Apple is playing right out of Microsoft’s playbook—and it’s one they complained about a lot.”

Santa Barbara is about as far from Greenville, S.C., as you can get in the continental United States, but Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) cares more about principle than geography. He is leading a conservative insurgency across America. Speaking at the David Horowitz Freedom Center’s annual retreat here late last month, DeMint told the faithful that if they want to return to the principles of limited government, they need to elect people who believe in limited government: “I came into the Senate with 55 Republicans, George W. Bush in the White House and large majorities of Republicans in the House, and we didn’t do what we promised,” he said. “We’re not going to change the Senate until we change the people who are there.”

Voters Say Republicans in Congress More Partisan than Democrats

For the first time in over a year of regular polling, voters nationwide say Republicans in Congress are acting more partisan than congressional Democrats. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters shows that 62% believe congressional Republicans are acting like partisan Republicans. That’s up six points from last month and ties the highest level measured first reached last December.

Misguided Efforts

“Liberals who vowed to take revenge against conservative Democrats who opposed President Barack Obama’s health care law have little to show for their anger six months before the midterm elections… Some labor unions and party activists have turned to long-shot, third-party candidates as they try to send a message to the wayward Democrats. The impact of such efforts is dubious, however, and could help the incumbents, many of whom represent conservative Southern districts.”

Innocent until proven guilty? Overcriminalization: Victimizing the Innocent

George Norris’s house was ransacked by police while he was held prisoner in his own kitchen.  Officers informed him he was not under arrest and no charges were pressed against him at that time.  He asked to see a warrant, which was revealed to him reluctantly; but when he asked to fetch his reading glasses from another room, police denied his request, confining him to his chair with a warrant he couldn’t read.

One year later, crippled by legal fees and a government dead set to make an example of him, George Norris pleaded guilty to a crime he did not commit.  His misdeed?  Importing perfectly legal orchids.

In 2004, the congressionally mandated Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack released an unclassified executive report on its broader study of the U.S.’s vulnerability to EMP weapons strikes.[1] In 2008, the commission released a follow-up report that detailed the vulnerabilities of the critical infrastructures of the U.S. to EMP strikes.[2] Taken together, these two reports make it clear that an EMP attack could inflict severe damage on the U.S. As the initial report stated, “EMP is one of a small number of threats that can hold our society at risk of catastrophic consequences.”

Secret Blackwater Tape Discovered
Blackwater founder Erik Prince is no fan of the press—in fact, when he speaks at the May 5 “Tulip Time Festival” in his hometown of Holland, Michigan, he’ll do so only under the condition that the press not attend. However, Blackwater watchdog Jeremy Scahill has obtained a recording of a recent private speech by the reclusive and powerful Prince. In the speech, Prince suggests his contractors are more effective than some of America’s NATO allies, who he says should “should just pack it in and go home.” He brags that Blackwater once “call[ed] in multiple airstrikes” during a raid on a narcotrafficking facility. And at one point, he seems to say that Blackwater is working in Pakistan—something that Blackwater and both the U.S. and Pakistani governments have denied. Characterizing America’s enemies, Prince says “they crawled out of the sewer and they have a 1200 AD mentality. They’re barbarians.”

PETA blamed omnivores for oil spill, Rush suggested it was eco-terrorists (guess who got raked over the coals)

After the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, conservative radio commentator Rush Limbaugh wondered on his show if maybe, just maybe, “hardcore environmentalist wackos” had sabotaged the Deepwater with an explosion that killed 11 people. Perhaps he was thinking of the Earth Liberation Front, which torched an SUV dealership in Oregon in 2001 and used a stolen earth-mover to topple two radio towers in Washington state circa 2009. Regardless, his critics lambasted Rush for his insensitivity and political opportunism. Those same critics were oddly silent a week later, however, when PETA chartered a banner plane to fly over coastal Alabama trailing a message that read, “Meat on your grill=Oil Spill.” PETA claimed that the message was a wakeup call for meat-eaters: “This morning, PETA delivered [a] message to Alabama residents by flying a banner over downtown Mobile….Oil spills can be blamed in large part on the oil-guzzling meat industry, which owes its existence to the meat-guzzling public.”

This latest attack on Israel by Obama will be cloaked in do-gooder rhetoric, but serves the most evil ends. Iran is going nuclear, and nothing will stop her in her march to Mid-East and then global supremacy. If they rape their own people to death, imagine what they would do to everybody else.

But to deny Israel its self defense in the event that she has nuclear weapons is the act of a madman or an evil man.

British General Election: Even the Winners Will be Losers
The British general election campaign reaches its climax on Thursday, and at this point appears to be anybody’s game. The most likely outcome is a “hung parliament” in which no party has a majority and a government is formed through backroom haggling.
However, after looking yet again at the state of the economy in my native Britain, I’m forced to ask a simple question: Why would anybody want the job?

A couple of recent studies that reflect negatively on abortion have come to our attention. Good information for all Veterans who served on Active Duty between 1957 and 2001!  Please share this with anyone who’s had active duty service between January 1957 to December 31, 2001 and planning for retirement.

In a nutshell it boils down to this:

  • You qualify for a higher social security payment because of your Military service, for active duty any time from 1957 through 2001 (the program was done away with 1 January 2002).
  • Up to $1200 per year of earnings credit credited at time of application – which can make a substantial difference in social security monthly payments upon your retirement.
  • You must bring your DD-214 to the Social Security Office and you must ask for this benefit to receive it!

Soc Sec website:

This is something to put in your files for when you apply for Social Security down the road.. It is NOT just for retirees, BUT anyone who has served on active duty between January 1957 to December 31, 2001. FYI – this benefit is not automatic, you must ask for it!

We’ve all been on active duty between 1957 and 2001 or know someone who has.

Passing on good information for all you military folks when you apply for social security.  I know this may be too early for some of you to think about social security but, keep living and you will reach that age.

Primary in-home caregivers to severely wounded veterans of current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will be paid a stipend by the Department of Veterans Affairs, under a bill Congress passed unanimously. But it will at least match pay for caregivers in the private sector.

The New START Treaty: Under Fire What we get for sending a boy to do a man’s job!

The New START Treaty, which was signed on April 8th, 2010, in Prague, is being heralded by the Obama Administration as a major national security accomplishment. However, it is coming under close scrutiny and criticism by the leading US experts.

This is not surprising as the document raises grave concerns – either directly in the text of the treaty or through implicit linkages and deals that were made during negotiations. Such concerns have prompted some U.S. senators to consider requesting the negotiating record of the treaty and the supporting documents detailing what exactly took place.

Hey, that’s a new campaign slogan….DON’T SEND A BOY!

Franklin Graham: Obama White House Behind Pentagon Ban, Repression Against Christians Coming
In an exclusive Newsmax.TV interview, evangelical leader Rev. Franklin Graham said the Obama administration had “slapped” all evangelical Christians by banning him from the Pentagon prayer service. He said the Obama White House had approved of the move. He criticized President Obama’s praise for Islam and warned of a coming repression against Christians.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is Losing All Touch With Reality

One would think that fourteen years in the House of Representatives would prepare a person for the pressures of being part of a Presidential Administration, but sadly in the case of Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood the pressure seems to be getting to him. It isn’t obvious looking at him, its not that he has a perpetual tic, or drools all over his tie. You can tell by listening to him, because Secretary LaHood is blurting out the craziest things.

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said Friday that Americans are “tired” of the congestion caused by motorized transportation, and instead are looking for other options such as bicycle lanes and walking paths, which the government will add to its infrastructure.

Defending Freedom is a Choice

In April 2009 in Strasbourg, France, President Barack Obama was asked at a press conference if he “subscribe[d], as many of your predecessors have, to the school of American exceptionalism that sees America as uniquely qualified to lead the world, or do you have a slightly different philosophy?” President Obama then responded: “I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalism.”

Obama’s Secret White House Meetings: Seeks to Keep Visitor Logs Confidential

Despite the poo-pooing, it appears that those visitor logs and what they reveal are a bone of contention with the fascist in the White House. I suspect that the freedom of information act will become a relic of the past, much as freedom of speech will.

Judicial Watch had to sue to get the visitor logs made public. Why would Obama want to keep his visitors secret? Who is he meeting with, and why? He is meeting with worst scum of the earth. That’s why. Enemies of America, haters of liberty, individual rights, haters of life and the pursuit of happiness.

WHITE HOUSE EXPOSED: Farrakhan, Ayers, Wright, Sharpton, Jackson are in da house

Obama’s pattern of dissing cops
The President spoke today about the failed bomb attempt in Times Square, and he gave a very special shout out to the police who did such a fine job. The compliment comes with a grain of salt, of course, because it seems that most of the time the President feels the police are acting stupidly, racist or both. Obama’s Predator drones

Glenn gets attacked for such lines – is the press outraged? Glenn reacts.

It appears that the government may not have followed their own plans and regulations put in place back in 1994 to help prevent oil spills from reaching shore. Oil Spill: Focus on Containment, Clean Up, Causation

Obama ignored NOAA warnings about damaged oil rigs (surprise!)

In October, a whistle-blowing group published a letter from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration to the Obama White House that pointed out there was a “substantial increase in spill volume in 2005, primarily due to spills associated with Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Some of the damaged rigs and pipelines damaged during the 2004 and 2005 hurricane seasons continue to have episodic releases, and repairs have not been fully completed,” reports HuffPo’s Dan Froomkin. In other oil news, the White House will have no choice but to let BP off the hook once the company has paid $75 million in damages, due to a federal cap on offshore drilling penalties. In a display of gratitude, BP is attempting to con Gulf Coast fisherman by offering them each a one-time payment of $5,000 if they promise not to sue BP for destroying their livelihoods.

DCD.C. May Legalize Weed

Washington, D.C.’s perennially stressed politicos may have a new way to unwind, as long as they have a doctor’s note: The D.C. Council will vote on Tuesday whether or not to legalize medical marijuana and thus dispensaries for patients who qualify. The drug’s widespread use is something of an open secret in the city, which studies have shown to have one of the highest rates of use (and highest rates of arrest)—11 percent of District residents admit to lighting up over the past year in spite of heavy fines, according to federal surveys. “The number of colleges in the city is one factor,” explained one marijuana advocate. “Another factor, and a subtle one, is the degree that people feel open enough to answer.” Under the new bill, doctors would be allowed to recommend but not prescribe 2 ounces of the drug for use over a 30-day period. Fourteen U.S. states have legalized medical marijuana.

Phyllis Schlafly: Why Tea Partiers Say Throw the Bums Out

Proof that the Tea Partiers and others are on target when they criticize both political parties was supplied by the behavior of the U.S. House on April 29. Demoting all major economic and corruption problems facing our country to the bottom of the agenda, the House devoted a long afternoon and 12 roll-call votes to passing a bill to force U.S. statehood on Puerto Rico.

The media was right about racism and violence at rallies…

Mainstream media has, for more than a year now, claimed that tea party rallies and events were racist, violent and presented a threat to the safety of American society.

Of course, the media has no real evidence showing this to be the case, and that’s because it isn’t the case.

But now that Arizona passed a common sense immigration law that allows law enforcement to actually enforce existing laws on illegal immigration, violent rallies and protests are breaking out across the country.

Ironically, the tea party movement has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Your Say

From Deana! So many people tell me they just don’t have time to get involved in “politics”. Well, I agree but since we’ve been saying that for the last 70 years or so, we have what we have today. I thought this message was a good one that doesn’t require a whole lot of time but if enough people do something positive, we can turn the tide and get our country back.

If you don’t know, the 9/12 project is one of many grassroots movements that supports holding our government accountable through educating voters and being pro-active about elections and issues. It was founded by Glenn Beck which turns off a lot of people but if one can get passed that, the movement is good for educating people and making a difference.

One of the things our local group is doing is researching candidates. Visit our blog: to read about candidates and post your own findings. We just started this and the more input, the better!

Rent Seeking

Using the United States Postal Service (USPS), large publishers, like liberal media giants, use their lobbyists to design a new postal rate system with increases that put cost pressure on the budgets of smaller publishing companies or put them out of business. This occurs after there is large decreases in postage costs. This is called “rent-seeking.” It is a tactic employed by these liberal media giants to put the conservative publishing companies out of speech and out of competition. Key in rent seeking is large publishing companies using the government as leverage over the business of their competitors.

I would like to honor the armed forces today. You men and women make unusual sacrifices for the United States of America, the citizens of our country, and even those who depend on our country. I would (also) like to honor the families of the service members, who as well make great sacrifices to care for the family at home without their spouse.
