Collier County (Ave Maria) Past Resident Brian Gerardo Escobedo Captured on Child Pornography | James Pat Guerréro

Brian Gerardo Escobedo (22) was captured and arrested in California on federal child pornography charges. Picked up by the U.S. Border Patrol at the port of entry in San Diego on Sunday, Escobedo was taken into custody by the FBI for an initial appearance in a California courtroom on Tuesday. Escobedo is awaiting an extradition to Florida.

Escobedo had been recently indicted by the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida on May 1, 2011 on one count each of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography.

While Escobedo was living in the Ave Maria community in northeastern Collier County in 2010, the Collier County Sheriff’s office led an undercover case, consisting of the Orlando and Fort Myers Innocent Images Task Forces, that had investigated him. The Fort Myers Task Force included members of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, and Cape Coral Police Department.

The undercover investigation disclosed that Escobedo was exchanging child pornography images over the Internet using his personal computer during the time he was living in Ave Maria, Florida.

Escobedo also was a registered student of Ave Maria University.
