Governor Scott Pushes for Auto Insurance Fraud Reform

Launches Hire Florida’s Heroes Campaign

This week, I urged the House and the Senate to send me a bill that addresses auto insurance fraud in Florida and lowers the cost of living in our state. PIP fraudsters cause auto insurance premiums to skyrocket, and honest Floridians pay the price. Floridians are fed up with being cheated by scammers who get a payday while innocent citizens get stuck with the bill. Our broken no-fault system is a hidden billion-dollar tax on Floridians. It drags on our economy and slows growth, and we must take action to stop the fraud. I am confident that working with the Legislature, we will get this done.

Also this week, I joined business, military, veteran and workforce leaders during the annual Florida National Guard Day at the Capitol. Together we launched the Hiring Florida’s Heroes campaign to connect our returning veterans with job opportunities in our state. Hiring Florida’s Heroes is a smart move for businesses and the right thing to do for our veterans and their families.

If you are an employer interested in hiring a hero, please call 1-866-FLA-2345 or visit veterans.employflorida.com.

Have a great weekend.

jpegAs a mother, grandmother and an advocate for Florida’s children, First Lady Ann Scott understands the importance both reading and literacy play in the development of our children. An avid reader herself, she is always looking for ways to share her passion for reading with Florida students. This week she kicked off Florida’s fourth annual Celebrate Literacy Week by participating in events around the state that encouraged students to read at least 20 minutes every day.

On Monday, the First Lady announced the beginning of the Million Minute Marathon at Sarasota Middle School. Mrs. Scott also spoke to students about her passion for reading and the many ways it can help them succeed in school.

The First Lady also announced the winners of the Celebrate Literacy Week Public Service Announcement contest at the Daytona International Speedway on Wednesday. This year’s PSA contest focused on the theme “Take the Lead and Read.” Students from around the state created 30-second public service announcements to promote reading in Florida.

Mrs. Scott appreciates the efforts of the Florida Department of Education and Just Read, Florida! as well as the partnering sponsors of Celebrate Literacy Week, including the Florida Lottery, Scholastic, Florida Education Foundation, Learning A-Z, Daytona International Speedway, National Geographic and Novachi.

Mrs. Scott encourages students around the state to pick up a book and make reading a part of their daily routine. Just 20 minutes a day beyond the regular school reading program can help students be more successful in school.

This week Lt. Governor Jennifer Carroll participated in several military meetings.

On Monday as the Governor’s Designee to the Florida Defense Task Force, she met with fellow task force members to discuss the importance of a Florida gem, Eglin Air Force Base, and how to grow and expand the military mission there.

On Tuesday, the Lt. Governor joined Governor Scott, both Navy Veterans, to support our troops and veterans at the annual Military Day at the Capitol.

In addition, the Lt. Governor organized a meeting with private and public partners to meet with Nancy Natoli, program coordinator for the Readiness and Environmental Protection Initiative run out of the Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Installations and Environment. Nancy and the State of Florida are working with our military installations and our conservation partners to find ways to protect our environment and our military missions at the same time. It’s a nice coincidence that Nancy’s visit came on military day!

Rev. Wildmon: Palin Right, Newt Is ‘Crucified’ by Romney Allies

Commentary:

Rev. Widmon and Sarah Palin say it best about Newt Gingrich and vicious attacks by the republican establishment.

Breaking News from Newsmax.com
Rev. Wildmon: Palin Is Right, Newt Being ‘Crucified’ One of the nation’s most influential Christian and family leaders, the Rev. Donald E. Wildmon, says Sarah Palin is right, Newt Gingrich is being “crucified” by the Republican establishment and forces allied with Mitt Romney.

Wildmon, founder of the American Family Association, has strongly endorsed Gingrich for president, and this week has been urging fellow believers to vote in Florida’s primary for the former House Speaker.

Wildmon has spent decades on the front-lines of the battle to protect American families and says Gingrich is the best choice for Christian conservatives who want a president to stand against a rising tide of secularism and anti-Christian sentiment.

On Thursday, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin stated on the Fox Business channel: “Look at Newt Gingrich, what’s going on with him via the establishment’s attacks. They’re trying to crucify this man and rewrite history and rewrite what it is that he has stood for all these years.”

In an interview with Newsmax Friday, Wildmon told Newsmax “That’s very tough language. But I think it’s probably pretty accurate.”

Wildmon said Gingrich is up against entrenched political forces who are “absolutely” trying to dictate who wins the GOP nomination.

“The mainstream media and the established Republicans would rather have anybody than Newt,” Wildmon said. “This is what really worries them. [Thursday] they went on a rampage, got five or six well known people, former colleagues of his, criticizing him. They’re going after him. That’s going to be his biggest obstacle to overcome.”

Asked why he didn’t endorse former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, as have several other Christian leaders, Wildmon replied: “You’re basically going to vote for the man you think can do the best job. I believe that Newt, of all the candidates, can do a better job of getting the country back to where it’s supposed to be.”

Wildmon has also stated that Gingrich passes two key criteria: he’s the only candidate who can defeat both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama.

Rev. Wildmon is aware that some have criticized Gingrich for his personal life and “baggage.”

But Wildmon says he has met privately with Gingrich and believes he is a changed man and has accepted Christ as his savior.

“I think it’s genuine and sincere,” Wildmon told Newsmax, “Only Newt and God know his heart. But by every visible aspect, I think it’s genuine.”

Wildmon also expressed grave doubts about the strength of former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s commitment to social issues that Christians care about.

Wildmon asserted that Romney “will not be reliable. Romney is Obama-lite.”

The conservative family advocate said the stakes in the 2012 election are huge. “If we lose this race,” he said, “if Mr. Obama gets a second term, or if Mr. Romney gets in, it’s the end of Western civilization as we know it.”

Wildmon added that he gives the former House Speaker a 50-50 chance of winning the nomination, due to the powerful establishment interests arrayed against him.

Sarah Palin: Newt ‘Crucified’ by Romney Allies, She Praises Newt

Breaking from Newsmax.comSarah Palin: Newt ‘Crucified’ by Romney Allies, GOP Establishment

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin says that Newt Gingrich is being “crucified” by the Republican establishment, including allies of Mitt Romney, who are trying to rewrite his record with a barrage of negative attacks.

“Look at Newt Gingrich, what’s going on with him via the establishment’s attacks,” Palin told John Stossel of Fox Business on Thursday.

She added: “They’re trying to crucify this man and rewrite history and rewrite what it is that he has stood for all these years.”

Palin has not endorsed any of the GOP presidential candidates, but has been enthusiastically supportive of Gingrich.

Last week before the South Carolina GOP primary Palin said she would vote for Newt Gingrich if she was voting in that state’s primary.

Palin’s husband, Todd, has officially endorsed Gingrich for president.

Sarah Palin explained her husband’s endorsement of Gingrich: “I think that endorsement was real reflective of a lot of Americans who understand that somebody with experience in cutting government budgets, cutting taxes — which does more for liberty and an economic turnaround than anything else — someone who has waged war on Hillarycare and government taking over of healthcare — somebody with that experience plus somebody who has struggled personally and overcome struggles and challenges — would be one that was embraced by voters.”

And Sarah Palin’s defense of Gingrich, especially of his conservative, Reaganite record, has gotten significant backing from leading conservatives.

On Thursday, Rush Limbaugh slammed Romney allies for a “coordinated attack” on Gingrich.

Limbaugh described Gingrich as the “premier defender of Ronald Reagan” and said such smear tactics against Gingrich hurt Mitt Romney.

“That kind of stuff is why people hate Romney so much,” Limbaugh said.

Palin also struck out at conservative writers like Washington Post columnist George Will and Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan, who earlier this month called Gingrich an “angry little attack muffin.”

“That’s that typical hypocrisy stuff in the media, you know, I’ve lived with over a couple of decades in the political arena,” she told Stossel, complaining that Mitt Romney doesn’t get the same treatment.

Last week, in a radio interview with Sean Hannity, Palin blasted ABC News for its interview with Gingrich’s ex-wife, Marianne Gingrich, saying these kinds of media hits “incentivize conservatives and independents” who are tired of “the politics of personal destruction.”

“We know the game now, and we just won’t put up with it. Good call, media.”

Romney is suffering a major backlash from conservatives outraged by his tactics.

Michael Reagan, the conservative commentator and son of President Reagan, slammed Romney for his recent assault on Gingrich.

“As governor of Massachusetts, Romney’s achievement was the most socialistic healthcare plan in the nation up until that time,” Reagan said.

“Say what you want about Newt Gingrich but when he was speaker of the House he surrounded himself with Reagan conservatives and implemented a Ronald Reagan program of low taxes and restrained federal spending.

“Newt’s conservative program created a huge economic boom and balanced the budget for the first time in more than a generation.”

Mike Reagan concluded: “I would take Newt Gingrich’s record any day over Mitt Romney’s.”
